The SCCJ WIN Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee welcomes Mr. Laurence W. Bates, Director, Managing Executive Officer, and General Counsel from Panasonic Corporation, the leading Japanese company and brand that is known around the world. Mr. Bates will share through this keynote seminar, his extensive career experience in Japan and overseas, in terms of how diversity exists in many different forms, and how this can help transform Japanese companies into being more international and dynamic. Mr. Bates will also share his personal experiences in diversity and inclusion with the audience. Laurence Bates is Director, Managing Executive Officer, General Counsel, Chief Risk Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for Panasonic Corporation, based in Osaka. Previously, he was senior managing director and chief legal officer, LIXIL Group Corporation, Tokyo; general counsel. BE Japan and GE Capital japan, GE Medical Systems Asia, Tokyo and Hong Kong; associate, Morrison & Forester, Tokyo; and associate, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison (New York and Beijing). He has served as president for the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. Mr. Bates received his BA from Yale University and JD from Harvard Law School. He was the recipient of the Fulbright Senior Professional Research Grant, Tokyo University and was a Yale-China Teaching Fellow, Wuhan University, China.
